Avon Rotary Corn Festival

Every second Saturday in August, the Avon Rotary Club holds the Annual Corn Festival. 2011 marked the club's 25th anniversary with record numbers. The committee begins planning in January and organizes craft, food and game vendors as well as entertainment throughout the day. One of the highlights is the famous Rotary food booth complete with fresh corn on the cob, salt potatoes and corn fritters. The day ends with a free concert for the whole community. Avon Rotary considers this its major service project as it not only allows to raise funds for the club, it provides an excellent venue for many other local organizations to fundraise and spread their message. This is just one of the special things the Avon Rotary Club does!

To honor Don Alhart in his last year as Chairperson of The Rotary Foundation Committee for District 7120, Rotarians are being asked to "Give Me Five" - give five dollars to support The Rotary Foundation. The Pen-Web club raised $130 in five dollar bills at our most recent morning meeting alone!
The Foundation's Humanitarian Programs fund international Rotary club and district projects to improve the quality of life, providing health care, clean water, food, education, and other essential needs primarily in the developing world. One of the major Humanitarian Programs is PolioPlus, which seeks to eradicate the poliovirus worldwide. Through its Educational Programs, the Foundation provides funding for some 1,200 students to study abroad each year. Grants are also awarded to university teachers to teach in developing countries and for exchanges of business and professional people.

What is Rotary?
Rotary International is an association of Rotary clubs worldwide. It’s made up of more than 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. The members of these autonomous clubs are called Rotarians, and they form a global network of 1.2 million business and professional leaders, all volunteering their time and talents to serve their communities and the world. Individual Rotary clubs, in turn, belong to the global association called Rotary International.
How do I become a member of Rotary?

After you have found the club(s) and weekly meeting day(s) and time(s) that work best for you, email John Hall at itsyourturn7120@gmail.com with the club(s) you’re interested in. John will get back to you with all of the details you need to check out a meeting and pursue becoming a member of Rotary.
What are the qualifications for membership?
Prospective members must:
- Hold (or be retired from) a professional, proprietary, executive, managerial or community position
- Be able to meet at least half of the club's weekly attendance or community project participation requirements
- Live or work within the vicinity of the club or surrounding area
What are the responsibilities of membership?
Members are expected to attend at least half of the weekly club meetings throughout the year. They must pay annual dues to their clubs and they’re expected to participate in local or international Rotary club activities or projects.
What are the attendance requirements?
An attendance record of 50% is required to remain an active Rotarian.
How much are dues to Rotary?

What is the minimum age to be in Rotary?
There is no minimum age to join Rotary. Rotary members range from 20 to 100 years old!
Are college students eligible for membership?
No. Rotarians have achieved a certain level of career experience that allows them to bring a specialization to their club, and students haven’t yet reached a level in their professional and personal lives that allows them to fulfill all aspects of Rotary club membership.
Is there a way for high school students to get involved?
Yes. Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs give young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.

What is Rotary District 7120?
Rotary District 7120 is comprised of 69 clubs in 11 counties: Allegany, Chemung, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates.
I’m moving. How do I transfer my membership to a club in my new area?
All relocating Rotarians are encouraged to seek out clubs in their new location. However, since each Rotary club is self-governing, membership isn’t really transferable. Once you’ve been accepted for membership in a new club, you should resign your membership in your former club as of the admittance date to your new club. Be sure to use your former membership number so your membership history is retained. Check out the Local Rotaries Contact Info section of YourTurnTo.com to see which club is the best fit for you.
